Bone china refers to a kind of porcelain composed in part of bone ash, so it kind of makes sense to decorate it with bones as well, depicting whatever skeletons like to do in the boneyard, which is pretty much what most people like to do: having parties, blowing bubbles, posing as centerfolds, or tripping through the flowers. The mournful plague doctor, on the other hand, would really rather just smell the flowers.
